A simple boat-to-reef experience from Nilaveli Beach, designed for a relaxed and straightforward snorkeling adventure.

Short Boat Ride

Take a scenic 10-minute boat ride from Nilaveli Beach to the Angel Rock reef.

Easy Water Entry

Step into the water directly from the boat using the ladder. There is no beach access at the reef.

Explore the Reef

Snorkel around the reef at a depth of approximately 6–8 metres, depending on the day's conditions.

Trip Duration

The full experience takes about 2 hours, including the short boat ride each way.

Conditions matter

Weather, wind, waves and visibility can change from day to day. From May to September, snorkeling conditions are usually at their best. Departure times are chosen based on the day's visibility rather than a fixed schedule.

Will I see turtles or reef sharks?

Sometimes, depending on the season and the day. Parrotfish and coral are the most consistent sightings; turtles and reef sharks appear but aren’t guaranteed, since this is wild marine life.

At Pigeon Island we saw sharks and turtles – huge ones – as well as colourful fish and beautiful corals. It was so lovely that the next day we went back for the Angel Rock sunrise snorkelling trip – it was incredible. You simply can’t visit Sri Lanka without going on this excursion with this team.

Everything was as they‘ve explained beforehand. 6am you head out to see the whales, they provide ypu water and fruits. They as well really know their stuff, always were at the right spot to actually see the whales
