Stand at Swami Rock and look past the temple, past Lover’s Leap, and you’ll find another feature carved into the same cliff — a deep, narrow split in the rock face that locals call Ravana Vettu, or Ravana’s Cleft.

The Legend
Local tradition holds that King Ravana created the cleft with a single strike of his sword, Chandrahasam. We can’t verify that, but the cleft exists, it’s dramatic to look at, and it’s been part of local storytelling around Swami Rock for a long time.

Seeing It for Yourself
Looking through the gap toward the ocean below is impressive on its own — sheer rock on both sides, framing a slice of open water. It’s one of the stops on our Trincomalee City Sightseeing Tour, usually visited alongside Koneswaram Temple and Lover’s Leap.

Enjoy the countryside, experience the local way of life and make a memory you won’t forget.
