A short drive from central Trincomalee, Kanniya Hot Springs doesn’t look like much from a distance — seven shallow wells, each enclosed by a low brick wall. What makes it worth the stop: each well holds water at its own distinct temperature, side by side in the same small plot of ground.

The Legend of the Seven Wells
Local tradition ties the springs to King Ravana — after his mother’s death, water was needed for funeral rituals, and Ravana struck the ground with his sword, Chandrahasam, and water rose up in response. Why seven wells at seven different temperatures isn’t something the legend explains.
What You’ll Actually See
Beyond the legend, it’s simply an unusual natural site — geothermal wells this close together, each behaving independently. It’s a quieter stop compared to Swami Rock, part of our Trincomalee City Sightseeing Tour.
